By replacing green screens with massive LED panels, filmmakers now see the final background while they act, rather than guessing what will be added later.
Understanding the LED Volume
The heart of this modern stage is the LED volume, which consists of massive walls and ceilings covered in light-emitting diodes. These panels do more than just display a picture for the camera to record. They act as a giant light source that wraps around the actors and props, casting realistic reflections on shiny surfaces. Think of this like a high-end smartphone screen that is large enough to walk inside. Just as a phone screen illuminates your face in a dark room, the volume illuminates the entire set with the exact colours of the scene.

This process involves a game engine that updates the background image based on where the camera moves. If the camera pans to the left, the digital landscape shifts instantly to match the new angle. This creates a perfect sense of depth that tricks the human eye, even when the camera is only a few feet away from the screen.
